Faculty Resources
There are a number of library services and external resources available to help you deliver affordable course materials to your students:
Open Textbooks
Adoption
Explore the Open Textbooks Library to search for published open textbooks in your field. Adopting existing open textbooks is a good first step to using open educational resources.
Adaption
Adapting open textbooks allows you to work from existing resources and modify the content to better suit your course needs.
Creation
Are there limited or no open textbooks in your field? Consider creating and authoring your own open textbook and contributing to the Open Textbook Library.
Explore grant opportunities to assist in adopting or creating open textbooks, such as the Maryland Open Source Textbook Initiative (MOST). MOST provides mini-grants to faculty who redesign and incorporate open educational resources in their courses.
Other Open Educational Resources
The Libraries have compiled an online guide that highlights resources available to both faculty and students who are looking for more information about Open Educational Resources. Explore the OER collections.
Course Reserves
Faculty members can place materials on reserve to allow students free access to course content. Please visit the Course Reserves page to learn more about how reserves can be integrated into ELMS, and for further details on our Top Textbooks on Reserve program.
